“New Year’s Card” (2017)
As a part of the drawing series of nursery rhymes and poems,
I made a new year’s card based on the poem by Ben George,
written for the chicken year in Chinese horoscope.

Not known for being the most intelligent beasts,
This chicken woke up with it’s mind on a feast,
The garden was bare as the sun started rising,
But this hen was confused by the shiny horizon,
Thinking that it was some magical worm,
Our heroine pulled at the light as it burned,
As the light toppled over the edge of the land,
The rest of the sun followed, bulbous and grand,
This failed to intimidate our little chick,
And she gobbled it down and began to feel sick,
From beneath every feather shot ten beams of light,
Like a mirror ball rising up into the night,
And flapping its wings this bird lit the sky,
As light poured from its mouth and its arse and its eyes,
I woke and watched it fly into space,
With a beaming unchickenlike smile on its face.
